How old do I need to be to rent from from Malirent?

If you are 18 years old you can both rent and drive our vehicles, but keep in mind that those under 21 need to pay an additional young drivers fees applicable to all young drivers stated in the contract.

Do I need to have a driver’s license to make a reservation?

When making a reservation, you don’t need to write your driver’s licence number nor information, but you do need to have a valid driver’s licence with you to pick up your selected vehicle.

Do I need to own a credit card charged during reservation?

A valid credit card is the basis of every vehicle rent, and in this way, we only verify its authenticity. Your credit card will not be charged during this validation.

Can I use my credit card to make a reservation for another person?

No, and you should keep in mind that the person signing the contract must be the holder of a valid credit card.

Which credit cards do you accept?

We accept Visa and MasterCard.

Note: we do not accept prepaid or electron cards, travel cards, nor Visa Electron or Maestro

Can I pick a specific car model?

Although we do try to keep every clients wish in mind, sadly we cannot guarantee a specific model, only the selected car category.

Which category of vehicles can I reserve?

Can I pick up my reservations in locations other than your offices?

We do offer such a service; however, it needs to be agreed upon 48 hours before vehicle pick up, and it is charged per our additional services price list.

What is insurance excess?

Insurance Excess is the maximum amount the client can be held responsible for in case of an accident. Its height depends on the vehicle category, and the amount can be checked during the reservation process.

What is SCDW (Super Collision Damage Waiver)?

SCDW (Super Collision Damage Waiver) is additional insurance which buys out the excess (participation in damage) done on the vehicles body.

What is SCDW+ (Super Collision Damage Waiver Plus)?

CDW+ (Collision Damage Waiver Plus) is an additional insurance which buys out a part of the excess for damages done on the vehicles body.

How can I decrease the excess amount?

You can decrease it by choosing an additional insurance package, and per the package selected the excess amount is either lowered or completely removed.

Do I need to choose additional insurance during the resevation process?

Yes, if you want the complete information about the price of your rental, however you can always select additional packages and services during vehicle pick up.

Do I need to reserve additional equipment before the vehicle pick-up?

To be certain that the desired equipment will be available during pick up, we advise you to reserve it during the vehicle reservation process. However, according to availability you can also request it in our offices.

What additional equipment do I need to select during the reservation process or vehicle pick-up itself?

In our selection GPS (satellite), child seat/booster, tire-chains, etc.

Can I use the rented vehicle outside Kosovo?

As our customer, you have the freedom to use the vehicle inside Albania, as well as other countries. However, in the case that you plan to use our vehicle outside the borders of Kosovo a special fee is charged.

Can the rented vehicle be transported via ferry?

All our customers have freedom of movement with their rental. However, a special fee is charged in such a case.

Is there a limit on the milage of the vehicle during the rent?

Our regular offer does not have a limit on the mileage done. In case of special offers the limit on the mileage is always clearly stated.

Is there a maximum vehicle rent  period?

The maximum rent period is 30 days. However, in case of a need for a longer rent period than the one designated here, please contact our Customer Support.

What is the minimum amount of time  of renting a vehicle?

Our vehicles can be used for a couple of hours per your desires, however the minimum amount charged is always 24 hours. Pick up, and drop off time is always selected during the reservation process.

Can we agree to leave the car in another office outside Kosovo?

To give our customers flexibility, we have made this possible by creating custom offers (by location).

Can the rented vehicle be dropped-off at a location other than the pick-up one?

Yes, MALIRENT offers such a service. You can pick up a vehicle at one office and return it to another. You can check the office list, as well as select the pickup and drop off location during the reservation process. The cost of this service, „One way service“ will be calculated and added to the cost of the rental during the reservation.

Does the reservation need to have the exact pick-up time?

During the reservation process, you need to state the exact pick up time. However, you can change the pickup time up until 12 hours before vehicle pick up.

Note: in case of late arrivals, we hold the right not to release the vehicle

Can pick-up and drop-off be selected outside working hours of the office?

Yes, however in case of pick up and drop off outside the offices working hours a special fee is charged that is stated during the reservation process. You can check the working hours of every office under the Contacts section.

What types of inssurances are available?

With additional insurance packages, you can decrease your personal responsibility in case of vehicle damages. It can be either reduced or completely removed. Insurance excess depends on the vehicle category, chosen package and the amount of days the vehicle is rented for. You can check the price of additional packages during the reservation process.

Can the reservation be changed before the vehicle pick up?

The pickup and drop off location as well as the model of the vehicle can be changed up to 48 hours before pick up. The pickup time can be changed up to 12 hours before pick up.

If I am late to pick-up my reserved vehicle at the exact time, how long will it be available for me?

If you have informed our Customer Support your vehicle will wait for you until your arrival, otherwise, we have the following reservation terms

From the 16th of  September – the 31th of December  and  January – the 14th of  June -  4 HOURS

From the 15th of  June –  the 15th September - 1 HOUR


Can I cancel reservation without a cancelation fee?

You can cancel your reservation via your user account or by the reservation form itself up to 24 hours before vehicle pick up free of charge.

What do I do if I lose the credit card that was used to make my reservation?

You can always use a different credit card to get the car. However, if you do not have another credit card, you will not be able to get the car of your choice.

What documents do I need to have to pick-up the selected vehicle?

You must have a valid credit card, ID card and a valid driver's license.

If I cannot pick-up my reserved vehicle personally can someone else do it for me?

Sadly, only the owner of the credit card can sign the contract in his name and pick up the vehicle.

If the vehicle cannot be picked up by others, can the reservation be switched to another person?

The client who receives the vehicle must have his personal documents (driver's license and identity card) as well as a valid credit card.

Can I pick-up the car from places other than your offices?

We do offer such a service; however, it needs to be agreed upon 48 hours before vehicle pick up, and it is charged per our additional services price list.

When do I pay rental services?

You pay for the car rental online or at the rental desk.

What is an authorization - deposit?

Authorization or deposit is a temporary reservation of funds that guarantees payment of rental services and possible added expenses. The height of the deposit depends on the vehicle category, rental period, and insurance packages.

Can I leave a cash deposit?

No, sadly this is not possible.

Vehicle pickup

If I have insurance with a different company, do I also need to take your insurance?

You do not have to take out insurance packages, but in the event of a direction resulting in vehicle damage, you will be charged the "actual amount of damage".

If you however do have insurance from another company, via your credit card or agency from which you reserved the vehicle, insurance excess is applied according to the vehicle category, since it is still not direct insurance. Which means that in the event of an accident or damage to the vehicle we get the value of the damage from your credit card, then your insurance company REFUNDS you.

What is additional insurance?

With additional insurance, you can reduce your personal liability in case of vehicle damage. Can be reduced or removed completely. You can check the price of extra packages during the booking process.

Can I have an additional driver on my rental contract?

Of course, the additional driver can be any person of legal age with a valid driver’s licence. You do however pay an additional drivers fee per our current price list.

If I have a problem with the vehicle, an accident or if I lose my documents, plates or keys, what can I do?

How can I prolong  the rental period?

You can either prolong your rental period in written form or personally in our offices 48 hours before your rental period ends. The price of the prolongation will be calculated by our current price list.

Can I drop off the vehicle in a location that is not included in the contract?

You can change the drop off office, however in such a case, an additional fee is charged for this service.

Can I rent a GPS, Wi-Fi or children’s seat?

In our selection of equioment, you can choose Wi-Fi, GPS (satellite), child seat / booster, winter tires, tire chains.

How can I add an extra driver to my rental contract?

If you have decided to add an additional driver to your contract you can come to the nearest MALIRENT office with a valid driver’s licence of the driver you want to add. The additional drivers fee is charged from the date you added the additional driver.

In which countries can I use the rental vehicle?

All our drivers can use a rental car in all Balkan countries (Albania, Macedonia, Serbia, Montenegro) except Bosnia.


How do I return the keys of the vehicle out of working hours to the Key Box?

If you return the vehicle outside of regular office hours then an additional fee will apply.

How can I pay for the rental services?

We advise you to pay with the credit card that was used to authorize the funds and make the deposit during vehicle pick up.

Also, you can pay with another credit, debit or electron car, as well as in cash with euros.

In case of vehicle’s damages, how and when is it paid?

If you have the necessary insurance for the damage caused to the vehicle, and the necessary documentation you will not need to pay for the damages. 

In case the damage you caused to the vehicle is not covered by the chosen insurance, it will be charged to you in accordance to already defined tariffs and vehicle categories, from the deposit funds that were reserved on your credit card during vehicle pick up, and to the maximum of the insurance excess. In addition to this, and administration fee for vehicle damages is also charged per our current price list. This is charged during vehicle drop off. The client needs to present all the documentation that was given to him by the police or by any other person (police report, alcohool test report, filled damage report) and fill out an accident statement in the vehicle drop off office.

MALIRENT withholds the right to charge the whole expense of the damage caused if the Client was not acting in accordance to the rules and regulations of the Republic of Kosovo, or if he did not follow the procedure of reporting the accident.

Tech info

What can you do in case of loss or theft of the documents or  license plates?

In the shortest possible time report the loss or theft to the nearest police station, where you will receive a confirmation document of the event that occurred. At vehicle drop off be certain to submit it to our colleagues in the office. Also, please inform us of the situation in the period of 24 hours after it has occurred via email or by phoning our technical support.

In case you have lost your car keys, please contact our technical support which will inform you of the costs that will be added to your invoice upon delivery of the vehicle.

What if the rented vehicle cannot be unlocked?

If the rental vehicle cannot be unlocked, please check if the key has been mechanically damaged or if it has been in contact with water.

What if I cannot start the engine?

If you can not start the vehicle, follow these steps: 

  • If you have a mechanical key (conventional), unlock the steering wheel by moving it left and right until you activate the contact and if you have a Bluetooth key, move the main box away from the electronic device (smartphone, iPod, etc.) The Bluetooth connection must be inside the car and all doors must be closed.
How do I check the fuel type of the rented vehicle?

To check the type of fuel on the outside of the fuel tank there is a note with the type of fuel needed.

  • ADVICE 1: It is always necessary to put more than 10 litres of fuel so the vehicle can register the new fuel level.
  • ADVICE 2: Always make sure the engine is turned off when charging fuel.
What is autohold and and does the vehicle have it?

Auto hold function holds the vehicle on a slope for easier start up. This function, if the mechanical/electrical handbrake is released, holds the brake for a couple of seconds while the driver is switching his leg  to the gas pedal, so the car would not go down the slope.  Most of the cars in our fleet are equipped with the mentioned function, however, on our web you can find the technical specifications and the equipment list that the rented vehicle has, as well as if it has the auto hold function or not.

What can I do if I used the wrong fuel type?

If the vehicle is refuelled with the wrong fuel type, please do not try and start the engine to protect the vehicle from any further damage. Please contact our technical support which will organize the beast and cheapest solution for you so you can continue with you trip without any further complications.

  • ADVICE: Before refuelling always make certain the fuel is compatible with our vehicle, according to the labels on the vehicle, and car key chain.
What if the fuel leaks?

If the rental vehicle is leaking fuel while driving, try and stop the vehicle in the safest possible conditions, turn on all 4 signal lights, turn off the engine, activate the handbrake and place the signal triangle at the proper distance from the vehicles.

What if the vehicle cannot pass a certain speed level, no matter how hard I push the gas pedal?

If your vehicle is equipped with a speed limitation, please check the tempomat/limitation switches to check if the limitation is turned on. If the answer is negative, please check the instrument panel for lights and warnings described below.

What to do in case of a vehicle malfunction which makes further travel impossible?

In such a case, test and stop the vehicle in the safest possible conditions, turn on all 4 signal lights, shut down the engine, activate the handbrake. After stopping the vehicle, be careful and place the reflective vest and signal triangle at the proper distance from the vehicle. In case of a vehicle malfunction, turn on the lights. Before contacting technical support, prepare the necessary information, vehicle registration number, exact location (address, highway mileage or GPS coordinates) and information on the nature of the malfunction. If the vehicle repair cannot be completed in 24 hours we will offer you a replacement vehicle or an alternative way to continue your trip.

  • NOTE: The client must wait for the agreed assistance on the road and must be informed of their arrival as well as any other important information
